  Inspiring Greenland!...

Blimey, its cold here!...Our very own resident Artist Michael Bruckner went to Greenland in search of Inspiration. Here is what he discovered...

Hi everyone, having lived in the warm and embracing Canary Islands now for some time, I thought I wanted to experience something completely different.

Something that would make my senses come to life, something that would inspire my artists soul and get my creative juices flowing.

For some reason I decided that somewhere in the Arctic Circle would do that trick. Don´t ask me why, but that is what came into my mind, and what better place to visit than Greenland.

There surely could not be anything more contrary to the place I usually reside in, lol. And I most certainly was not to be disappointed by what I found.

So I decided to share it with all of you, because my senses were completely overwhelmed and I have decided to go back again soon and possibly even move there for a 6 - 12 month period to really experience everything it has to offer, and with a little luck I might even be able to put some of it on canvas.

I only hope I can do it justice...

  Arrival In Greenland!...

This is where you meet your first unusual & unexpected situation...

During the Winter month there is only one way to get to Greenland and that is by plane from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq. This town is very small, but it is the only "International" airport for arrival in Greenland.

It is, in fact, an old American airbase, and the reason why it is the international airport is that the airport in Nuuk, the capitol, has only a very small runway. So everyone travelling to Nuuk must first stop in Kangerlussuaq and then change into some propeller planes for the second leg of the journey.

In case you wondered, this is 09:45 AM!...

This room is both Arrival & Departure Hall!...
(Definitely the "smallest" Int. Airport I have been to)

This is the view from my Hotel room. Can´t get any closer to the runway if you tried. I spent my first night here before flying on via propeller plane to Nuuk the next morning.

Scenery, Landscape, Colours & Wonderful People!...

What follows is nothing more than an attempt trying to show you all what makes Greenland so inspiring!...

There is no simple way to describe the place. I wish I were able to somehow reproduce how I felt during my time there, but as I´m unable to I hope that the photos will speak for themselves.

It is an awe inspiring place, ranging from the amazing landscape through to the different architecture, the closeness of untouched nature to the point of wild animals roaming free and the very friendliness of both the Inuit and Danish Greenlanders. If any of you ever want to feel inspired by something that feels as if it belongs on a different planet then this is the place to come to.

I will go back several times this year and perhaps even spend some longer time there this year in order to experience the changing seasons and all that this entails in this magical place. It is such a shame that it won´t be lasting for much longer due to humanity destroying this place because of global warming.

What a Christmas decoration this is!...

Here is a close-up of the star!...

When I arrived it was -21 Celsius!...

  Last, But Not Least!...

That leaves me with only one last, great impression to tell you all about!...

Greenland has the biggest Ravens I have ever seen in my entire life. As big as medium sized dogs, they are almost everywhere you go.

They hold a special place in the beliefs of the local Inuit population, although exactly why that is I have yet to ascertain.

But what a great excuse for me to travel back again to this wonderful place, lol.

I hope you all enjoyed my little "report" about the visit and look forward to seeing art, that was perhaps inspired by my article, filtering through to the website.
